(Gary, IN) The Gary Community School Corporation is proud to announce that three more student-athletes from the West Side Leadership Academy varsity basketball team have shared their post-graduation plans. Families, coaching staff and administrators gathered at West Side Leadership Academy last week to witness the momentous occasion.

TyQwan Macon, Billy Muldrew and Paris Roberson were the final three senior players to participate in a formal signing, committing to various schools in the fall. Macon will be attending Indiana State on an academic scholarship, graduating with a 3.7 GPA. Billy Muldrew and Paris Roberson will attend Calumet College. Both maintained a grade point average over 3.0.

Coach Christopher Buggs raved about the hard work these young men put into their academics even through the pandemic.

“These young men were the quiet bunch, but they got work done,” said Buggs.

Robert Lee, Athletic Director for the Gary Community School Corporation, offered words of encouragement to the young men.

“College is going to be hard and challenging, but we know you have been trained and are prepared to go on and do amazing things,” said Lee. “This will always be home. We hope that you will come back and inspire your peers to push further as well.”

Seven of the seniors from West Side’s team have committed to secondary education. Quimari Peterson, Indiana State University; Parion Roberson, Purdue Northwest; Mason Nicholson, North West Florida State; and Bobby Sanders Jr., NC A&T.

Coach Christopher Buggs has been a coach and mentor to many of the young men graduating since middle school.
