While some of the students enjoy the benefit of participating in dual-credit courses at the regional campus, many had not experienced the university up-close until this SAT boot camp. As a gateway to higher education, partnerships and events like these allow students to learn about opportunities closer to home without sacrificing quality education.
“This experience opens students’ eyes to the possibility of college,” said Steve Heinold, Director of School Programs for Indiana GEAR UP, “Events like these give them the tools to make it a reality.”
Preparation for post-secondary academia includes the SAT boot camp, financial aid information, exploration of majors and other college prep resources. With guidance from the admissions office, the students receive a head start on what it will take to be in the best position for scholarships and acceptance into their school of choice.
The “experience” was originally created for the senior class, but many of the stakeholders knew the benefit it would bring to the juniors. Students were also personally welcomed by IUN Chancellor Ken Iwama.
The resources and support for life after high school continue through the spring as the partners will come together to provide “Financial Aid Night” and other college and career events for students in the district.
