Dear Gary Community School Corporation families,

By now, you have probably seen the headlines about the bus driver shortage that is sweeping the nation, and the Gary Community School Corporation has been impacted by this trend. Fortunately, our solid partnerships with the City of Gary and GPTC have allowed us to develop some creative, short-term solutions as we map out the long-term transportation plan!

Effective Wednesday, August 17, 2021, West Side Leadership Academy students in need of transportation, to and from school, have two options:

Option 1 – There are 6 community routes that will pick up students from neutral locations in each neighborhood throughout the city of Gary. These routes can be found here.

Option 2 – WSLA Students can ride designated GPTC city buses, free of charge, that will drop them off at West Side Leadership Academy.  To identify the closest public transit route from your home, please click here and determine the most convenient route for your scholar.

(Note: Elementary and Middle School Bus Routes will remain the same.)

Thank you for your patience as we work to do what’s best on behalf of children!

Dr. Paige McNulty, Manager of the Gary Community School Corporation

the First Week of School with FAQ

As expected in any school district, the first few days can be filled with questions and concerns from parents, students and stakeholders. This is also the time when our team must come together to address your questions and concerns with urgency and respect.

The following is a compilation of questions submitted by a concerned citizen. Recognizing that others may have some of the same questions, we opted to share and post this document widely to ensure accurate information is being relayed.
