Stokes’ vast career in education includes serving as Superintendent of the Hamilton Southeastern Schools in Hamilton, Indiana and Assistant Superintendent of the School Town of Munster among other administrative roles. In 2018, she received the Indiana Governor’s Award for Achievement in Education.
Stokes shared this official statement, “As we start this new chapter together, I am thrilled and honored that the Gary Community School Corporation Board of Trustees has selected me to be the next superintendent. The school board, district staff, families, community and state leaders are dedicated to eliminating the effects of structural and systemic inequities that negatively impact students.
These efforts resonate with me because I am passionate about breaking down barriers and creating access and opportunity for all our students to be successful. Therefore, in the spirit of continuous improvement, I am grateful for the opportunity to support the empowerment of all our students so they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I am committed to our mission to create a legacy of excellence–one that impacts generations to come.”
School officials indicated that a public meet and greet will be held in the near future to introduce Dr. Stokes to the community.
