Gary Community School Corporation Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Successful “Pink Out” Events

(Gary, IND) – In a vibrant show of support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Gary Community School Corporation hosted a successful “Pink Out” Dress Down event organized by Student Services. Staff and students across the district donned their most creative pink attire to raise awareness for breast cancer. 

A new addition to the district activities was the “Most Creative Outfit Contest,” where employees showcased their pink ensembles in the spirit of awareness and creativity. Special recognition was given to those with the most inventive costumes, with Malline Morris, Director of Teacher Development, taking first place among the 11 finalists. Her standout pink ensemble captured the hearts and votes of everyone at the central office. 
In addition to the dress-down day, the district also held its annual “pink out” athletic events. The West Side Leadership Academy Breast Cancer Awareness Volleyball Tournament took place October 12th featuring local vendors, food trucks, and an abundance of team spirit that echoed the importance of community involvement. 
The Cross-Country Sectionals held October 19th marked the culmination of the season with events dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness. 

“The overwhelming support and participation from our staff and community stakeholders demonstrate the importance of standing together in the fight against breast cancer,” said Dr. Yvonne Stokes, Superintendent of Gary Community School Corporation. “We are grateful to everyone who contributed and particiated in a series of well-orchestrated events.”

These initiatives underscore the Gary Community School Corporation’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and community engagement.
