Gary Community School Corporation

Addresses Food Service Concerns

Recently, the Gary Community School Corporation received feedback from students, parents, and community members regarding the quality of the menu items being offered to students for breakfast and lunch throughout the District.

Recognizing the positive impact that proper food and nutrition can have on student performance and focus, the administration immediately met and continues to meet with representatives from our food vendor Sodexo to address these concerns. As a result of these conversations, Sodexo has upgraded the menu offerings at all school buildings. Additional burners have also been purchased to ensure that all students are served hot meals.

Another important measure includes the hiring of a Food Service Director who will directly oversee the daily implementation and quality of our food service program in partnership with Sodexo. We look forward to having students be a part of the interview process so that their voices are included in the final decision.

Please know that we are still actively addressing all concerns regarding food service and look forward to implementing more upgrades and menu options which every child under our care deserves. We thank our school community for the feedback and remain committed to being a school district that not only listens but responds. – Dr. Paige McNulty, GCSC Manager
