Free After School Enrichment Program for Grades K-8 at the Gary Community School Corporation

Partnership with the YWCA of NWI begins after spring break

(Gary, IND) – The Gary Community School Corporation has partnered with the YWCA of NWI for an after school enrichment program. The program starts immediately following Spring break on March 28th.

“Quality after school experiences promote greater academic success for all students and families,” said Chief Academic Officer Kimberley Bradley. “This partnership will provide a safe and enriching after school opportunity both at our schools and the YWCA.”
Last fall, the Gary Community School Corporation (GCSC) announced its receipt of $787,500 in grant funding to support the continued push to improve students’ academic engagement and performance. The two-year award, issued by the Indiana Department of Education, will support more than 100 students in elementary and middle school over the next two years in the areas of academic, social, emotional, and physical development of the students.
“We are so excited to partner with the Gary Schools to provide additional support for students,” said Caren Jones, Executive Director of the YWCA. “It is our goal to be a viable resource to parents and students as a result of learning loss experienced during virtual learning.

Programs will be offered at Beveridge, Banneker, Glen Park Academy, McCullough, Williams, Bailly STEM, and Gary Middle Schools. Transportation to the YWCA will also be available for additional programming. Authorized parents/guardians are required to pick students up at the conclusion of the afterschool program each day. Programming at West Side Leadership Academy is scheduled for Fall 2022.

This program is FREE to all participants and a nutritious snack will be served. Limited capacity. Interested must register through the web or by scanning the QR code.
