Gary Community School Corporation Fosters Career Exploration among Students through Visit to County Line Apple Orchard

(Gary, IND) – Recently, the Gary Community School Corporation Gary Area Career Center’s Culinary Arts, Business, Early Childhood Education and Radio/TV students traveled to the County Line Apple Orchard for a multi-tier career exploration experience.

The excursion provided hands-on learning experiences for the students that included picking fresh fruits in anticipation of making apple pies and tarts. The culinary students will be using the apples from the orchard to make special treats while the business students will determine the price point for each dessert through costs analysis. The early childhood education students created field experiences for grades Pre-K through 2, and the Radio/TV students documented the adventure by taking photos and videos.

“This trip was a great experience for all of our students,” said Shelly Martin, Director of the Gary Area Career Center. “The apple orchard presented a great opportunity for them to learn how to explore career opportunities while being introduced to new resources in their community.”
