(Gary, IND) – The nearly 200 members of West Side Leadership Academy’s graduating class of 2022 are in for a special treat during their June 5th commencement ceremony. West Side H.S. Class of 1991 alumnus Artis Twyman, Vice President of Communications for the 2022 Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams, will deliver the keynote address focusing on a quote from Zig Ziglar — “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
“When invited to come and address the students of dear West Side, I immediately accepted,” said Twyman. “This is an exciting opportunity, and I am humbled to have been given such an important responsibility.”
The 2022 season will be Twyman’s second as vice president and 20th season with the Rams. He previously served nine seasons as senior director of communications and three seasons as the team’s director of media relations after spending six years as assistant director of football media.
“We were ecstatic when Mr. Twyman accepted our invitation,” said Kerchell Hobson, Director of Secondary Education for the Gary Community School Corporation (GCSC). “The students share our enthusiasm and have hopes of getting a glimpse of his Super Bowl ring.”
Twyman earned his undergraduate degree in speech communications from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn., and a master’s degree in mass communications from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He is the son of Jerome and Era Twyman. His mother is widely known in the NWI community for leading the Gary Literacy Coalition for 20 years. Twyman resides in California with his wife and two children.
The WSLA Commencement exercises begin promptly at 4:00 p.m. at the RailCats Stadium in downtown Gary. The ceremony will also be broadcast live via Facebook on the Gary Community School Corporation page.
